The #1 ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team rode a solid
22-save, shutout performance by goaltender Dustin Schwartz (Stettler, AB,
5th) en route to a 4-0 home ice victory over the visiting fifth-ranked St.
Mary's Huskies Wednesday night in a non-Conference game played in front of
2641 fans at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.
Checking forward Justin Wallin (North Battleford, Sask., 4th) scored once
and added an assist, while helping to shutdown the Atlantic Conference's top
offensive line of Ryan Lauzon (Halifax, N.S., 3rd), Brad Self (Peterborough,
ON, 3rd) and Kurt MacSweyn (Dalkeith, ON, 3rd), who were held off the
scoresheet.
Alberta (15-1 Canada West, 21-3-1) were at full strength with Tyler Shybunka
(Edson, AB, 5th) and Chris Ovington (Vernon, B. C., 4th) returning to the
line-up after missing the tail end of the first half of the season with
injuries; and both players scored goals for the Bears who also saw freshman
Joff Kehler (Edson, AB) add a marker in the third.
Cory Roberts (Charlottetown, PEI, 2nd) made 34 saves for the Huskies (9-4-1
Conference, 11-6-1 overall) who were forced to endure a 30-hour trip to make
the trek out west.
The two teams meet again Thursday night (7:30 p.m. MST, FM88-CJSR) in
Edmonton.

The Bears were 0 for 6 on the powerplay while St. Mary's went 0 for 4.
St. Mary's goaltender David Chant (Whitby, ON, 2nd) was injured in practice
on Tuesday, so Alberta netminder David Rathjen (Penticton, BC, 1st) served
as the Huskies' back-up to Roberts.
